TNN | Sep 11, 2013, 05.50 AM IST VARANASI: The Hindi Week celebrations started in Banaras Hindu University (BHU) with a formal inauguration at central office of the university on Tuesday. The programmes are being organised by Rajbhasha Cell of the university. Special events will be held on September 13, also commemorated as Hindi Day.
During this period, from September 10 to September 20, several literary events in Hindi will be organised for students, faculty members and IV grade staff of the university. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, registrar, BHU, Prof GS Yadav emphasised on the use of Hindi in day to day life. A dictation and vocabulary competition was organsied for IV grade staff of the varsity on the inaugural day.
Meanwhile, faculty of arts organised an essay writing and poetry writing competition for students on Tuesday. Several other literary events and awareness programmes for the promotion of Hindi language will be organised by the faculty on following days of the week. Several literary competitions were also organised at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, Barakachha on the occasion. Faculty members gave detailed information to students about contemporary requirements of Hindi and information about several Hindi softwares.
